KEYS TO RECOVERY

You are more than a conqueror! "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." (Romans 8:37)

"Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any; even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye." Colossian 3:13

By now, you should know that you are not alone. Just knowing this, you can rest assured that there are many individuals just like you who have begun the process of healing.  Do you want to heal?  Then let me tell you a secret.  Healing starts with forgiveness!

Forgiveness does not mean letting people get away with murder, but it does mean that you don't have to spend any more energy on those who violated you.  Forgive yourself, embrace yourself, become a friend to yourself.  Give God another chance.  Even though you may have felt He wasn't there for you; He was.  We may not know why things happened, but God has always been there for you.

Forgive your past mistakes.  We blame ourselves for things we had no control over or were ignorant of.  A small child is certainly not responsible for the abuse committed against him or her.  Look for a counselor that specializes in helping survivors who have experienced violence.  Join a group of survivors or start a group at your church.  Find someone to mentor you in these endeavors.

Understand that we all have choices in life, and that the individuals who robbed us of our innocence, dignity, and self-worth made that choice.  Do not blame yourself for what someone else did to you.  God has given us the Bible, a manual for living.  Read the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20.

Begin a new relationship with God.  Read His Word.  God loves you, no matter what the world says.  Pray and search for Him diligently.  Give Him another chance.  Just like any new relationship, get to know God and seek His righteousness.  Matthew 6:1-33.

Begin a new relationship with yourself! Love yourself and be true to yourself by placing proper boundaries. Allow you to be you and grow according to your knowledge of you.
